BLACK WOMEN’S HEALTH INITIATIVE
The BLACK WOMEN’S HEALTH INITIATIVE (BWHI) is a statewide campaign led by The Amos Project, aiming to transform healthcare systems in Ohio to better serve Black women.
Launched in 2024, the initiative addresses systemic inequities in healthcare access, affordability, and quality that disproportionately affect Black women.
It combines faith-based organizing, community storytelling, and policy advocacy to drive change.
The Heart of Our Work
-
Healthcare Equity
Advocating for affordable, accessible, and culturally competent care for Black women, including reproductive health services.
-
Policy Reform
Pushing for legislation that holds healthcare providers accountable and addresses systemic barriers to care.
-
Community Empowerment
Mobilizing faith leaders, grassroots organizers, and community members to share their stories and advocate for change.
Eliminating barriers to good health for Ohio’s Black women
In collaboration with Policy Matters Ohio and the Care Economy Organizing Project, the initiative conducted a survey of over 500 Black women to document healthcare disparities and inform advocacy efforts.
